UNITED EMPIRE LOYALISTS Notes from the Underground
Sunday, October 11, 1998 FLASHBACK alert! Here's a slice of psychedelic history from a band that was jam oriented and modelled, to a degree, after the Grateful Dead. Compiled by guitarist Anton Kolstee, the disc features performances from four sessions, two in '68, one in '70 and a reunion show at Vancouver's commodore Ballroom in '90. Original material dominates, much of it written by bassist/vocalist Rick Enns although everyone had a hand in creating this cooking, swirling fusion of extended guitar solos and thundering rhythms. This disc is essential to collectors of music from the pyschedelic era.
